How to show ‘Loving Kindness’ despite Social Distancing

Dear friends,

On behalf of our Bethel UMC church family, I’d like to thank you for your faithfulness during this COVID-19 pandemic. We are adapting our ministry to attend to the people in our church community the best we can during this wilderness time. I do wonder if this season of creativity will lead us to improve our community life in the next season too?

I am most grateful to our Administrative Assistant, Sheryl Jones, for updating and sending to you a current copy of our Church Directory. I invite you to look through your new directory and call upon your fellow church members to “check-in.”  You may especially want to call those who do not have email addresses listed or may not be able to access our virtual worship services.

Below is a sample script for you to use when you call:

“Hi this is (Your Name), I am a member with you at Bethel UMC. I’m calling to see how you are doing and if there is anything, we as a church community need to be aware of?

Do you have any prayer requests we can pass on to the Pastors?

Would you like Pastor Julie or Pastor Reggie to call you?

What kind of things are you doing to keep yourself busy during this time?

Are you able to get groceries? Do you have enough food/supplies in the house? If not is it OK to pass this information on to Pastor Julie?

Just so you know, the Bethel Worship Services are being shared online. A YouTube link is emailed out each Sunday morning, and you can see them on our Bethel Facebook page. If you do not have access to these, would you like for Sheryl to mail you a DVD of any of the services?

Do you have any changes to your contact information? A new address? Telephone number? E-mail?

Please know that you are free to adapt the script to your personal style. If any of your contacts indicate any kind of concerns or needs, please notify us immediately so our staff can respond accordingly. You may also report any information updates as soon as possible. If your contacts have no concerns or needs to report, you do not need to contact us.

Finally, if you notice there are some names missing from our list of church community members, please let Sheryl know and she will add them. This endeavor is also a way for us to update our records, as some people have moved, no longer have home phone numbers, etc.

In Christ,
Pastor Julie
