New Beginnings In July!

Dear Brothers and Sisters at Bethel,

There’s just something about July and ice cream. We went to the beach a lot growing up. We were privileged enough to have two houses shared among my grandmother, her siblings, and our families. We got to stay three weeks at a time during the summer. All the cousins, aunts, and uncles would get together.

We’d fish off the dock, play in the yard, and of course, go to the beach. And every now and then, over the sound of our shouts and splashes, we could hear the faint yet immediately familiar melody of the ice cream truck coming down South Waccamaw Drive.

So far, that melody has remained unique to that particular ice cream truck, and I haven’t heard it since. It’s too faint a memory to hum it, but you can bet your last dollar I would jump clear out of my chair if I heard it today, but I digress.

My go-to selection was a Choco-Taco (sadly discontinued). The ice cold treat was a welcomed break from the salty beach heat. And as the old camp song goes, “That’s how it is with God’s love, once you’ve experienced it.”

Reminders of God’s steadfast love are a welcomed break from the heat of angry antagonists on the news and the net. God’s grace is like ice cream in July. I don’t know about y’all, but I could go for an ice cream right about now!

In Christ,
