Christian Education

Sunday School and Christian Education Classes

Christian education at Bethel Methodist Columbia in Forest Acres, SC.All Christian education classes are held from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. and are located in the Education Building.  A greeter is on hand to welcome and direct visitors. A staff nursery attendant is provided for the Sunday School hour and the worship service. Christian Education Classes for Youth and Children:
  • Youth (grades 7-12)
  • Elementary (grades 3-6)
  • Primary  (grades 1-2)
  • Pre-K/Kindergarten (ages 4 and 5)
  • Toddlers (ages 2 and 3)

Joy Christian Education Class (Traditional)

The Joy Class, led by a team of rotating teachers, focuses on Bible studies and other topics in a lecture format.  This traditional approach appeals to mature adults.

Holroyd Christian Education Class (Traditional with variety)

The Holroyd Class also is led by rotating teachers. Topics include scripture studies, church history and theology, as well as contemporary issues. Lectures and lively discussions are designed to appeal to both mature and younger adults.

New Journeys Class

Our New Life and Christian Voyagers classes have combined to form the New Journeys Class. We will begin a new study together called The Peace and Power of Knowing God’s Name by Kay Arthur. We will meet upstairs in the Education Building in the first room on the left. All ages are welcome!

Youth Sunday School

We will be starting a new curriculum in September 2015:  Steps to Knowing, Doing, and Experiencing the Will of God by Tom Blackaby, Mike Blackaby, and Daniel Blackaby.

Vacation Bible SchoolVacation Bible School at Bethel Methodist Columbia.

VBS is a week-long program of evening classes held each summer for every age level. Children’s classes include crafts, music, Bible drama, games and science experiments that go along with the VBS theme. A light supper is provided each evening.

Special Studies

Neighborhood Groups meet monthly in members’ homes September-May for spiritual formation. These caring/sharing groups focus on the Bible’s meaning for life. New Member OrientationNew Member Orientation at Bethel.

Held on the 4th Sunday of each month (no class in July and December) in the minister’s office next to the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m, this time gives visitors an opportunity to ask questions and receive information about Bethel UMC.
