Christian Education Classes and Sunday School

A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.

Christian education at Bethel Methodist Columbia in Forest Acres, SC.All Christian education classes held at Bethel are from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. on Sundays. You will find our Christian instructional classes located in the Education Building.
 
A greeter is on hand to welcome and direct visitors. A staff nursery attendant is provided for the Sunday School hour as well as the worship service.
 
Christian Education Classes are for everyone of all ages, including mature adults, young adults, youth, and toddlers:
  • Mature Adults
  • Young Adults
  • Youth (grades 7-12)
  • Elementary (grades 3-6)
  • Primary  (grades 1-2)
  • Pre-K/Kindergarten (ages 4 and 5)
  • Toddlers (ages 2 and 3)

Joy Christian Education Class (Traditional)

The Joy Class, led by a team of rotating teachers, focuses on Bible studies and other topics in a lecture format.  Often times, this traditional approach appeals to mature adults.

Holroyd Christian Education Class (Traditional with variety)

The Holroyd Class also is led by rotating teachers. Topics include scripture studies, church history and theology, as well as contemporary issues. Lectures and lively discussions are designed to appeal to both mature and younger adults.

New Journeys Class

Our New Life and Christian Voyagers classes combined to form the New Journeys Class. As a result, we will begin a new study together called The Peace and Power of Knowing God’s Name by Kay Arthur. We will meet upstairs in the Education Building in the first room on the left. All ages are welcome!

Youth Sunday School

Vacation Bible SchoolVacation Bible School at Bethel Methodist Columbia.

VBS is a week-long program of evening classes held each summer for every age level. Children’s classes include crafts, music, Bible drama, games and science experiments that go along with the VBS theme. In addition, a light supper is provided each evening.

 

Special Studies

Neighborhood Groups meet monthly in members’ homes typically taking place September-May for spiritual formation. These caring/sharing groups focus on the Bible’s meaning for life.

New Member Orientation

New Member Orientation at Bethel UMC Columbia.New Member Orientation is held on the 4th Sunday of each month (no class in July and December) in the minister’s office next to the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m. This time gives visitors an opportunity to ask questions and receive information about Bethel UMC Columbia. After that, visitors ready to become new members of the church are scheduled to join. This usually occurs the first Sunday of the following month.
