Safe Sanctuary Training

Safe Sanctuaries provide a safe environment for children and youth as they grow in faith.Safe Sanctuary Training is provided to every eligible Bethel United Methodist Church (BUMC) volunteer. For those who will teach, work with, coach, counsel, transport, supervise, chaperone, lead or direct any member, visitor or participant under the age of 18.  Eligible Bethel volunteers are defined as persons who or are actively participating at BUMC for at least three months, have never been convicted of any child abuse offense, and are willing to undergo our Child and Youth Abuse Prevention Training Program.

Volunteers must also consent to a background investigation every two years.  In order to make Safe Sanctuary Training available to all eligible volunteers, a training presentation link is included below.  Volunteers must review and complete the following material:

6. Disclosure and Authorization for Employer To Access Consumer Reports:

It is the policy of this church to ONLY run a criminal/social security/MVR check as dictated by our Child and Youth Abuse Prevention Policy on all volunteers and staff as necessary.  This form is standard to the company used to run these checks and is designed to be used for all manners of employee and volunteer checks depending on the client’s needs.

The completed test, application, covenant form and disclosure authorization should then be submitted to the church office.  If you are unable to print these materials, please contact the church office and we will be happy to supply them to you.

For those who would like to volunteer but do not have access to a computer, a time can be scheduled to complete the training session at the church office.  Additionally, copies of these materials are available at the church office to take home, complete and return.
